Dear Internet Friends,
Although I have had blogs far and wide hosted by various domains, I have decided to start this one, not as a replacement to previous ones, but in addition to them. This, my friends, is my "serious blog." I hope to post things of interest and of note, and perhaps (hopefully) of insight. "Profundity is my specialty."
So, who would be interested in this blog? Well, I can't answer that question exactly. But I can tell you a little about myself:
I'm a traditionalist Anglican, with strong Byzantine Catholic leanings, a love for the Patristics and an deep respect for Pope Benedict XVI. On the political side of things, I am an aspiring non-resister, a registered Green party member, and an anti-neocon. I think the proper term that is being used nowadays for folks like me is "Crunchy Con." But don't worry. I don't plan to post a lot of political stuff here, because, after all, politics will always be a "stop-gap" measure. The King I submit to has a kingdom not of this world. So, really, political "answers" don't usually answer anything successfully or for very long.
My first 13 years of life were spent as an evangelical Christian, the son of a pastor. At that time, my father was received into the Episcopal Church and became a priest. I was confirmed (as was the rest of my family). It was then that I began learning about the Anglo-Catholic traditions of the Faith. And our Church organist began introducing me to Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
Today, although I am a member of the Episcopal Church officially, my spirituality drinks primarily from a Catholic well. My wife comes to the Episcopall Church from a Methodist background, and so sees things along more Protestant lines.
Anyway - that's a little about me. I guess I should also say that I collect things with bats on them (the flying rodent, not the sports equipment), I like stories about vampires and pirates, and I'm fascinated with the Amish. I work at an evangelical Christian liberal arts college in the Northeastern United States, but later this summer will be starting a new job at an Episcopal seminary.
See ya 'round.
Peace, y'all!
